    Hi Debra,

Unfortunately women find it more difficult then men regarding sugar free and loosing weight.  I know how disheartening it is, I've been sugar free for 19 months and I've gone up and down.  Low carb for me did work, I didn't cut out all carbs I just limited them, I cut out bread (which I don't really miss at all, it doesn't interest me much anymore but I've found bread doesn't fill me up as much so I tend to eat more then what I need so I'm kinda overeating).  One of the family friends, she has been sugar free as well for quite some time too.  She stuck with it, she does walk quite a bit and she has been really good.  It took her quite some time but she finally started loosing weight and she's looking so much better and even younger!  I do exercise every day though, but I work in an office so i'm sitting on my butt all day so I'm happy to get moving.  Compared to days when i don't workout I haven't noticed a difference in the amount I eat, I do exercise at night though usually after dinner when my kids have settled and I get a moment to myself.  Loosing those last few kgs can take a little time however stick with it, keep tweaking things until you find something that works.

JohnN, how can muscle weigh more than fat?  this is such a myth and it annoys me sooooo much.  Measure a kilo of feathers and a kilo of fat and gues what?  you still have a kilo... duh!  The real truth is muscle is denser than fat.  Fat is bulky and lumpy so if you carry an extra kilo of fat, you'll be lumpier than with a kilo more muscle. A kilo pile of fat will take up more space (volume) than a kilo pile of muscle.  The quality of that kilo is vastly different.  Not to mention, that muscle burns more calories, even at rest, so your muscle mass will help get and keep you lean.

sorry, the teacher coming out in me :)

Hi everyone, well its now been 4 months sugar free-diet free, I have been up an down with hunger still having days of being forever hungry, then one's of only eating when i need to, Freda an Christain give me hope that it will settle down in time, apart from making some of the red velvet cup cakes an some custard a couple of weeks ago (I thought I was missing cake), I haven't  been tempted to keep baking. So I guess I'm doing well.

I'm glad you're doing well.  I still have off days, but I remind myself that I am not hungry and that I am better off without it.  So far, so good.

Luella - good point.  The saying that muscle weighs more, really means 'for the same area', I guess.  The core point really is, I am 86 kg now, which is the high end of my 'recommended' range.  But, I can't really lose more, I look thin already.  And, if i build muscle through exercise, I will weigh *more* and move FURTHER out of my 'recommended' range.

Catch 22 with exercise...I've had a  bit of break through with eating since last post, I actually couldn't eat any dinner last night first time ever, had a fairly large lunch (2 toast with smoked fish) felt okay while eating it then, but got really uncomfortable after, and had no hunger for the rest of the night amazing I hope this is the turning point.

My appetite control kicked in in 3 days.  Other people say it takes months.  Everyone is different, so, who knows ?
