    Hi David

Congratulations on all the hard work, the new members section looks good, easy to use and lots of info to download.

It's early days for my wife Vivienne and myself, so no weight loss yet, not that we need to lose much, me 10kilos, her 5kilos. We are in our 60's and feeling the affects of all those "Sweet "years.

To introduce another factor, we have just started eating Gluten Free. So now watch for sugar content in gluten free products. Be interesting to know if there are many members who are Coeliac or Gluten Intolerant. Gluten would seem to be another food additive that is causing lots of people problems with their health. Witnessed by the increasing Gluten Free products available.

Will keep you posted on our progress.

    Welcome along Dave & Vivienne!

Re Gluten free ... I haven't looked at in in any detail, but I was reading an interesting book the other day (possibly the Selfish Gene - Dawkins or perhaps Blink - Gladwell - but I'm not certain) that suggested that Gluten intolerance is equivelent to lactose intolerance in its genetic history.  40,000 years ago the theory goes we were all lactose and gluten intolerant, but the changes to our diet (cattle and wheat domestication) have meant that some of us have evovled a tolerance ... I plan to look at that in a little more detail in the future

Hi Samantha & everyone, I had been unknowingly addicted to sugar all my life, until I heard David on the radio last year.  Immediately bought his book and went sugar free.  It was great.... lost 5 kilos in 4 weeks, but then thought I had beaten it and slipped back into old habits and WOW that addiction was back like a wild animal.  It wasn't until David's Raisin Hell series on sugar addiction that I managed to get back in control. My thinking was different because of that series. I started acknowledging the addiction and not worrying about weight loss. That was 6 weeks ago and eventhough I have had one slip up , I got back quickly because I was scared of the addiction taking hold again.  David says the cravings will eventually go away. I still get them but now I realise that it is really just a habit so can handle them  better.  Stick with it. You will get there.   I keep thinking to the future  and telling myself that by eating low fructose I will never, ever have to be on a diet again !!!!!!!!

Hi Karen - wow 6 weeks!  Very impressed - I am currently 6 days and going strong.  I am also not worrying about the weight loss.  I hear you about the habit side of things.  I used to believe I was an "emotional eater" - it was just my sugar addiction by another name.  I never sat down and ate a bunch of spinach when I needed comfort!!!!!!!  Now for me recognising the habit is a very powerful thing.  I think the habit is reinforced by the craving.  I look forward to hearing more of your success.  It is certainly encouraging hearing of people who are fructose free (I don't think there are many!)
    all the best

    Hi Dave
I am new to the world of intolerances - gluten, wheat, dairy, preservatives.  Having found out about these intolerances I am experiencing a brand new way of feeling good.  I thought everybody felt sick and uncomfortable after they ate. How wrong was I?  I am now attempting to become totally sugar free as well.

I look forward to hearing about your ideas

    Hi David,

My mum and I absolutely loved your book 'Sweet Poison' - wow who knew!

I must say it's quite scary the amount of marketing $$ going towards high sugar foods - especially for children! As a new mum I'm tryin to lose my baby fat and have so far lost 4 kgs in 3 weeks so very excited - just clean eating without the high surgar - which was quite easy to give up....ask me in 6 weeks!

So my thoughts are...you have tracked down and researched supermarket brands why not look into all the weight loss centres - see if they have the right frame of mind for thier clients. You see a lot of superstars now claiming they lost the weight but you always see them put it back on - the lovely Kirsty Alley, now Magda for Jenny Craig... Tony Ferguson (I guess it's only protein shakes - but are they good for you?)... Isowhey... Lite'n Easy created by dietitians? Just thought this may be interesting for I wonder if they are helping or adding potential harm to the overweight.

    Hope you continue to inspire!

    Warm regards,

    Cassandra

Welcome to the forums Cassandra and well done on the weight loss!

Strange you should say that about the weightloss centres ... am working on a piece on Wasley Weight Management as we speak.

There is nothing harmless about shake diets.  They are milk powder + fructose + a multivitamin instead of a meal ... check this out for more of my thoughts on the topic: http://www.raisin-hell.com/2009/01/weight-loss-shakes-do-fat-lot-of-good.html

Hi David, and Hi Dave and Vivienne

Yes, like you I have been gluten-free for about 6 months, and also trying for fructose-free since January.  It has been a CHALLENGE to make these changes, as I am sure you are finding, but the health benefits to how I FEEL are fantastic!  I have had a reasonable weight loss, still a fair way to go, and of course I need to maintain these changes - tend to 'fall off the wagon' when stressed or frustrated, and then eat ANY rubbish (because I deserve it, I tell myself). But I am enjoying the changes to lifestyle and I am so glad we have these forums to help us maintain motivation!   Best of luck to all...

    Hello everyone.

Well I just pulled Sweet Poison off my mothers shelf the other day and I have not been able to put it down. I am blown away by your research and findings.

I used to be a professional dancer, very fit. I am now almost 40 and I am at least 25kilos overweight now and I have no idea how I got here.....well I didn't know until reading your book.

I am very excited.  Today has been my first day fructose free and I am looking forward to learning more.  I am just going to follow your plan with the 5 rules and eat no more than 10g per 100g with at least 2.5g fibre and see how I go.

The best news is that I am a full cream milk lover from way back.  I never gave up the milk like most people.  Just skull it straight out of the carton from the fridge much to my families disgust.....but I don't care and as it turns out, i don't need to care!!

Nice to meet you all and good luck....will catch up wtih you all soon. Child free tonight....got things to do if you know what I mean?....wink wink, nudge nudge.....;-)

chow for now (as long as it doesn't have fructose of course!)

My name is Nicole Foss. I lost about 35kg in a year by dieting and fitness bootcamp (P90X), but then the weight stopped coming off, which was very frustrating. I am now very fit and active, but still far too large (still about 30kg overweight). I had been eating very little, but unfortunately too much of what I was eating still had sugar in it. Even my 'no added sugar' yoghurt has 'natural apple extract' - sigh. I'm hoping that getting away from the sugar all together will make all the difference.
