Here i go starting this no sugar regime, but i am waiting for the Quit book to arrive. In the meantime I gather just don't eat sugar or anything processed. All you other posters are quite inspirational. Onward!

Hi and welcome.  Really, it's just 'don't eat sugar', but you'd be surprised where you will find it.  It's in sauce, it's in bread, it's everywhere.  The newer book also recommends avoiding seed oils ( like cottonseed, linseed, etc ).  the only good oils are avocado, olive and animal oils.  Low fat food is bad ( it tends to have sugar in it ).  That's it in a nutshell.

Thanks for your support Christian; no ill effects yet, unless a giant headache is related to no sugar. Onward!

    Hi,

I've only started today so not sure what to expect yet but from what I have read a headache is like the number one symptom! lol.  Good luck

The headache is related for some people.  I was lucky, I didn't get one.

i  had terrible headaches for day 3 4 & 5. a couple of days in the first week or 2 i went to bed through sheer lack of energy and hating the world as i was missing sugar. Five weeks in i am starting to feel the benefits and not missing sugar at all

The important thing is that everyone is different.  Withdrawal is different, how long it takes for things to function properly, all those things are different for each person.

This is day 6 for me and I have changed my eating a lot. I eat less over all, lots of protein, and am feeling a lot better. Weight is coming off and i am not running out of steam like I thought I would. I make sure I have a teaspoon of oatbran daily. Was at a supper last night and the Arnotts Assorted Creams didn't interest me at all. Had a black coffee and went smugly home.

well done and congrats on the biscuit - my son and I are on day 5 and two nights ago we went to my sisters for a roast pork which was pretty good even though we couldn't have gravy or sauce, or apple sauce lol, but the suprising thing is that they pulled out two bags of marshmellows to roast in the fire and Harrison and I really didn't want them which is good, however he did want the frozen fruit boxes the kids were drinking so I gave him a small glass of diet gingerale to pass the craving.  Think we are both doing pretty well considering :)

The hardest part is not what you eat alone, it's what you eat with family.  I do a sugar free dessert for my dinner with the in laws every week, and eat one chocolate, b/c it's a ritual we've had for a long time ( although I used to eat a lot more than one ).  I do think that one chocolate a week is the reason I still have the odd craving, but I can control it, and it was a MAJOR deal in the family that I might stop doing it ( I supply the chocolates, from the US ), so I just rolled with it.  What we eat at home, is far easier to control rigidly.
