I had a bit of trouble finding dextrose even though glucodin powder was working OK in recipes. Then I accidently found a plentiful supply of dextrose in the beer making section of Woolies and Coles. Hope this information helps anyone who is looking for it!

    Hi David

I have also found sourcing the dextrose powder quite difficult.
I have found a brewing sugar which says the ingredients are dextrose and maltodextrin - is this the same thing or should it be plain dextrose? It is also referred to as Brewing Sugar on the packet!
I found this in the brewing section of Woolworths. (Aust)
    Many thanks

    Hi,

If you are having trouble finding dextrose and have had no luck in your local Coles, Woolies, Kmart or Big W and you don't have a beer brewing shop nearby I have done a quick Google and come up with http://www.grainandgrape.com.au/index.php

These guys sell dextrose and will ship (shipping costs calculated at checkout so not sure what they would be).

Worth checking out if you are struggling to find dextrose anywhere local.

    Hope this helps,

    Nicole

    Hi

You can order online and have dextrose home-delivered from www.aussiebrewmakers.com.au - prompt, efficient service.

    Hi Bev

I bought Coopers brewing sugar in Big W, is that the same one as you got?  I haven't been game to use it yet just in case it's not the right one.  I am waiting for a response from David but I haven't heard from him yet.

    Regards, Margaret

    Hi all,

I'm also having issues finding Dextrose powder. The health food shop claims glucose and dextrose powder are the same - dextrose mono-something.... is that right?

    Any insight would be appreciated...

I've been on the hunt for dextrose too and found only the cooper's range. I found the plain dextrose looks like this:

This seems to be Pure Dextrose and it was $3.20 in big w.

    There is also Brewing Sugar..
which is Dextrose and maltodextrin I think this might be better for cooking.. is this allowed?

I'm also interested in buying Malt, I think the cooper's range is sugar free,
    the ingredients were Malted Barley.

    Any thoughts?

my friend who is a brew guru said that if i was cooking i'd be best to use Brewing sugar to give food 'body' and that the malt should be fine but i thought i'd check with the experts ;)

    Hi Mariana,
Glucodin powder is the same as dextrose but it is more expensive. The dextrose in Woolies in the beer making section is much cheaper and the same thing. Works fine in all of the recipes that I have used
    Hope this helps,Patricia

    Hi Bev,

I have bought this brewing sugar too!  The ingredients say dextrose and maltodextrin which are both on Davids list as being good!  I tell you what it's a mine field out there!
