Sugar & Crohn's Disease

    Hi there,

I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2007.  I have had many periods of ups and downs health wise with this medical condition since that time.  As part of my efforts to achieve a status of better health I have discovered that one of the main aggravators of my condition is sugar (surprise, surprise).  I have purchased the Sweet Poison Quit Plan and subscribed to this forum as a means of assisting in that goal.

I was wondering whether any one else out there suffers from this condition and has had similar results or knows of any research that quantifies my theory.

    Thanks, Michele

    Hi Michele
I was also diagnosed with Crohn's about the same time as you.  At the time I decided to cut a lot of stress out of my life and changed many of my obsessive, perfectionist tendencies as well as examining what I was eating. The stress reduction was a huge improvement. As well as the bowel issues my main symptoms were extreme fatigue and chronic aches and pains all over my body which I attribute to the nerve damage from the ulcers in the bowel. I started on the Sugar Free lifestyle last May and have most certainly noticed an improvement. Now if I eat too much fruit or even eat small amounts of sugary foods I get a burning deep in my stomach, almost the way lemon stings an ulcer in your mouth. I believe that processed food also is a significant trigger for me. My aches and pains are improving gradually, and probably only in the last month have a noticed a drop in my weight for the first time in 10 years (even though weight loss was not the goal of the sugar free life).  So yes, Michele, I would expect you to feel better, but don't expect things to happen too fast.  You will soon find that this is not a hard thing to follow, for me its like - some people just don't eat seafood - we just don't eat sugar!  I am about to post a comment in the chit chat forum on the Thermomix I just bought which has made me feel even better.
    Good luck
