What are goaties?  Is this a Queensland thing?  Kaarina's recipe for chocolate cake calls for a packet of goaties.

Same here, I've lived in Queensland all my life and I've never heard of them.  I did find them on an organic food website http://www.organicsaustraliaonline.com.au/prod6448.htm. They seem to be a goats milk mini chocolate snack and quite nutritious by the sounds of it.

I have found goaties in the health food section of my local Coles in South Australia. It is in a small brown and white packet(chocolate ones). My grandchildren got a sample of the strawberry ones in a showbag, but they dont like these as much and our Coles only stocks chocolate.  They are $1.65 per packet which contains about 15 small "lollies". They are liked by my 6 grandchildren, and it is nice to have something to 'treat them with that is sugar free.

By the way over the holidays I noticed a new dextrose based treat for kids in our local IGA.  Here's a photo:

Our little taste tester love them!

    Cheers

I believe the sweetner is glucose. Here is a link to what is in goaties http://interclinical.com.au/goaties/nutrition.htm

This is the goaties website http://interclinical.com.au/goaties/main.html  I clicked on the "click here for print version" to get to the above link/information.

    Hey David

I am a little confused as I bought these only to find when I got home the second ingredient is corn syrup which is on the bad list.  Will have to start taking glasses to read the little writing which they love to put white on clear.  Do you think they know how hard it is to read? HA HA

I think Corn syrup is ok, but high fructose corn syrup is the bad one (HFCS) I have just loaned my book to someone, so can't check up :-(  Maybe David can verify this.

I did find this snippet below on the net, so it looks like Corn syrup is glucose, and HFCS is turned into fructose

High fructose corn syrup is made from corn syrup through an enzymatic action that converts the dextrose sugar (in the corn syrup) into fructose sugar. HFCS is sweeter than corn syrup, which is why you find it in so many foods both processed and fast food, and especially sodas (the corn syrup isn’t sweet enough to be used in sodas).
