Hi Denise,
The "sugar" on an information panel is the sugar which is actually in the product. If it recommends adding a sweetner, then that information is not factored in because everyone will add whatever they like, even an artifical sweetner which has "no calories."
I have an Esiyo maker, but I haven't purchased those flavours for a while- i've switched to using it to make Kefir drinking yogurt because it's less tart. I'm sure the 6g is lactose. Just look at the ingredients- if sucrose or sugar isn't mentioned, then its milk sugar and ok.
Personally i am only using glucose or rice malt to sweeten anything, if it really needs it- I taste it first. Is that other sweetner you mentioned an artifical one? I'm off them as they give me stomach pains and worse.
Best wishes,
Dennise F
