I am a new member who hates sugar or rather anything that tastes sweet!!! Love sour and savoury. Make my own meals, chille con carne, seafood marinara, curries,Italian sauces,Thai etc. Using tinned additives like tomatoes, coconut milk, tomato paste, kidney beans should I be making everything from scratch? I would like to know how much sugar is used in these products. Is it a case of anything processed is bad for you.Forgive me but I hate chocolate, cakes, biscuits.I am over weight and unhappy. Is there sugar in pasta, rice or noodles?By the way I can eat and love pickled onions by themselves,am I having sugar and don,t know it?

    Hi Pauline and welcome

Yes you will be having sugar and not knowing it, but probably not as much as us chocaholics (lol!).  Although lots of condiments are packed with sugar - BBQ sauce for example.

Just start reading labels. The nutritional panel will tell you how much sugar is in each product. Easiest way is to look at the 100g or 100ml column and go down to sugars (under carbohydrates). It should be 3g or less, if I remember correctly.

Its a real eye-opener when you realise how much sugar has invaded our diet.

    Cheers

    Hi Pauline

Re: your PM, No you don't have to divide or multiply anything.  If the number for sugars in the 100g or 100ml column is 3 or less then the food is acceptable.

I hope that makes sense.. ?

    Regards

    Donna :-)
