    Hi Everyone,

I've just come home from the big city and whilst there tried to find an ice cream maker and found one of those soft serve types at Target and a very expensive icecream maker at Robin's Kitchen, nothing at K Mart or Big W.  Does anyone know where I can get one for a reasonable price ie around $50, I seem to remember reading a post where one was bought at Target for about $20 so I am a bit confused.  Any suggestions gratefully received.

Margaret, try ebay, I just noticed some for about $30.  I suppose they would do the job.

I've also been looking without much luck.  Someone told me it is a summer stock item.  Good guys could get one in that was $170.  If anyone sees one please let us know.

    Hi Ladies

I bought one at Good Guys for just under $50. It's a Sunbeam. You have to freeze the bowl for 24hrs and then attach the lid/motor once you've put the ingredients in.

It makes very smooth icecream but only small amounts (which could be a good thing. lol!). Plenty for me and DH but would be too small for a young family. I've also seen them for sale at The Warehouse - one of those huge discount stores that sells all sorts of junk you really don't need.

    Cheers, Donna

Margaret - you said you've just come from the big city. Where abouts are you, if its not a rude question?

The alternative to an ice cream maker is a combination of one of your existing, thick walled stainless steel pans and a cheap hand held electric beater. Freeze the pan for and hour and after making the ice cream mix, put it in the pan and whack it in the freezer for 30 minutes. Then remove it, scrape the sides and bottom, mix again and put it back into the freezer. You may need to perform this exercise every 30 minutes for about 3 hours. The scraping and mixing exercise takes only a minute. It works well.

    Hello Donna,

My big city trip was down to Wellington Point, I go down there a fair bit to visit my daughter and family, I am from Brisbane but now live west of Ipswich.  I love visiting but am always pleased to get home to the peace and quiet of the country.

    Cheers Margaret

Hi All - Have a look at the Sweet Poison forum under General Chit Chat and go to "Best Ice Cream Maker?" You don't have to be limited to being able to get to a store - it's easy and often cheaper to buy online. Postage is quite often free over a certain amount. Someone on the thread I mentioned bought one from 'kitchenwaredirect' and received theirs in 3 days. I have bought from kitchenware direct before with no problems (from distant memory I think it's free postage over $100.

    Cheers - Janet
