How Much Sugar?

Milks and yoghurts

    Hi David

Can you clarify several things for me.

I thought I read that with ALL yoghurts  we can take off 4.7gms of the sugar listed, as it is lactose... Is this correct?

If so does this make Jalna ‘fat free’(  4.7gm sugar per 100gms, but 0gms once the 4.7gms is deducted for lactose)    AND     Jalna whole milk youhurt(4.1gms per 100gms and 0gms when 4.7gms is deducted for lactose) =  both  totally sugar free per 100gms   and which would be the better one to buy .... or doesn’t matter?

    ALSO

As ‘Full cream’ milk is documented on the label as having sugar and different grams for different brands..... Is it correct that ALL of these sugars of the Full cream selections are in fact ‘Lactose only’, even if they don’t state the word Lactose on the label and the sugar grams vary?

Why do the sugar grams on all Whole milk differ if it  is all lactose?    What makes it differ?.... ie 10gms, 12.3gms, 13gms.

Is there any difference using long life whole milk over fresh?

Would you buy a milk(skim) that had lower fats and lower sugar content than a whole milk product?... there is a skim longlife that has 8gms sugar and lower fat!

You give a diet plan of 8grams of Fructose per day..... is this for withdrawal ONLY or does it stay the same after withdrawal?....did I read 10grams of Fructose after withdrawal?

Indeed it is Catherine ... but don't get too precise about it, its an approximate number and it should be around that value - the best thing is to also check the ingredients list and make sure there is no 'sugar' or 'concentrated fruit juice' in the list ... an even better test is to taste it ... yoghurt should taste sour.

    Cheers

From what you say they both look ok ... but check to make sure that sugar is not on the ingredients list ...

Full cream milk should always be around 4.7-5% lactose ... what brands have you found that are different to that?

Long life milk should be the same and it doesn't make any difference which you use from a fructose perspective.

I wouldn't buy a skim milk but there is no fructose in unflavoured skim milk (so its ok from a fructose perspective).  But always check the ingredients list to see if there is any sugar in the list (or post info on the brand here and we can all see if we can figure out the contents).

The plan is to have the absolute minimum of fructose for the rest of your life (as close to og per day as possible) ...

    I hope that's some help?

    Cheers

    David.
