I'm just scrolling through the topics and came across yours about the brown rice syrup. I was wondering the same thing. Is it okay?

Yes, Rice Malt Syrup is ok to use. (Pure Harvest), you can buy it at Coles.

Rice syrups can be used in place of white sugar in recipes. To substitute rice syrup for regular sugar in recipes, for every 1 cup of sugar use 1 1/4 cups of rice syrup and decrease the liquid by 1/4 cup. It can also be used in place of maple syrup or corn syrup.

I used rice malt syrup for the first time yesterday (in a carrot cake) and it was great!  Not at sweet as sugar, but sweet enough.

What section at coles.  With sugars?

Sounds like a nice alternative.  What would it be like instead of honey on toast??

It is in the health foods section, hard to find sometimes. It is really nice on toast, and crumpets.

    Here you go:

    The original recipe is here:

    http://thecakemistress.com/blog/f...arrot-cake-cream-cheese-frosting/

and the alterations to it are:
    * replace the cup of sugar with 1 1/4 cups of rice malt syrup
    * reduce the oil by 1/4 of a cup
    * add an extra 1/4 tsp of baking soda.

For the frosting, the recipe I used was from this site:

    http://www.philadelphiacreamchees...never-thought-of-philly-with.aspx

    Alterations are:
    * replace the icing sugar with dextrose 1:1.
    * leave out the lemon if you like (it's still awesome without it).

    It turned out beautifully!

I couldn't find rice malt syrup, but I found a jar of rice syrup -- is it the same thing?
