Travelling to the USA tips request

    Hi

In 2012 I read Robert Lustig's book "Fat Chance', which convinced me I needed to cut sugar from my life.  David's quit plan book showed me how to do that, and 17 months later it is a part of my life now and I never want to go back.

In a few months I am travelling to Hawaii for a well-earned holiday, and I am concerned about what I will be able to eat there.  Lustig pulled no punches about the amount of sugar in the American diet.  I don't drink soft drinks or eat the usual suspects anyway, so i can steer clear of those with no problem.  I intend to visit a supermarket and get some low-fuctose back up snacks like nuts, but I was wondering if any other forum users had travelled there recently and could give me any tips? Did you have any problems when eating out?

I have always wanted to travel to Hawaii - on my bucket list - so if the price of going there is to have to detox again from sugar, I will, but I would prefer not to if I can.

    Thanks a lot

    Hello Heidi,

I should think that you could follow the same guidelines as you do here since many of the processed foods are made by related companies. Check David's Australian  Sugar Guide:  http://davidgillespie.org/sugar-guides/

As long as you read the labels and avoid anything with more than 2% "sugars" [5% for yoghurt] you should be safe. Anyway, as David says "party food is for parties"  so depending on the length of your stay you could have a bit of a pig-out  and be a bit stricter than normal in the week or two following your return :-)

    Happy holidays!
