I went cold turkey withdrawal from sugar 30 days ago and haven't looked back.  However, I'm curious as to how much Dextrose is advisable per day. I have been using David Gillespie's cookbook to make some treats to ease my sweet cravings and allow myself something small each day.  The weather has been extraordinarily hot here in Melbourne lately and I LOVE to throw a few peeled lemons, some soda water and a bunch of ice blocks in the blender for a refreshing cooler.  However I do like it sweetened and was wondering how much Dextrose I can "safely" add to this drink. Can somebody authoritatively answer this questions for me please?

Dextrose is another name for glucose. So you can take in as much as you want. If your appetite-control system is working your tummy will tell you when you've had enough.

And as you progress your desire for sweet tasting stuff will fall away.

David does say that glucose treats should be few and far between..........used sparingly as a treat. My husband was eating glucose sweetened biscuits after dinner and his sugar readings went up and alarmed his doctor. Since then he hardly ever has these treats and has actually lost another five kilos which he really didn't need to lose anyway.
