I have not had any sugar for the last two weeks and would like some clarification about whether or not we are allowed anything sweet during the withdrawal period.  I know in Sweet poison David mentions not eating anything sweetened with dextrose however I was wondering if the same applies to Rice Malt Syrup or if we are supposed to be completely sweet free?.

If someone could please clarify this for me I would be very grateful.

    Cheers,

Carla . . .  "allowed" ??? You are in charge!  If you decide to cut fructose from your diet you will probably find that your craving for sweetness declines. I still use sweeteners in my coffee (stevia) and on porridge ( splenda)  but only in small quantities.

You may find  Sweet Poison Quit Plan and The Fat Revolution  easier to read than Sweet Poison.

David does recommend avoiding cooking with dextrose [aka glucose] during the withdrawal period - of a few days but you need have no qualms about RMS. It does contain glucose  but no fructose. Anyway,. how much of it will you be eating per day?  20g??

The main thing is to just cut down drastically on the fructose and watch for signs that you appetite-control system is working . . .  you feel full after each meal and your weight reduces or stabilises.

    Keep working at it . . . it's all worthwhile  :-)

Thank you very much for your reply.  I was just a bit confused as to whether or not non fructose based sweeteners were alright to have while going through the withdrawal process.  I thought maybe we weren't supposed to have anything sweet during this time.

I am very relieved that RMS is ok to use as I was having a little amount on my porridge and I made some muffins with it.  I didn't really have that much of a problem reducing the sugar from my diet I just have a hard time not having fruit as it was what I usually had for breakfast with some natural yoghurt but I am slowly getting used to having toast or porridge in the mornings.

Overall I feel a lot better and my husband has been losing weight consistently over the last 2 weeks.  I am amazed at how easy the transition has been.  The only thing that concerns me now is getting through Christmas.

Thank you again for you help,

    Kind Regards,
    Carla
