Hi David My Husband and I have been following a sugar free diet for about 12 weeks we seem to have gained weight. We changed to full cream milk and cream and natural yoghurt and butter instead of margarine would this be causing the gain?

My Husband has porridge and fullcream milk for breakfast meat and salad sandwich for lunch chicken fish or meat with veg for dinner fruit and nuts for snacks. I have toast with butter and veg for breakfast same as my husband for lunch and dinner I have banana on bread sometimes for a snack late afternoon nuts and avocado on crackers for snack. I have been having a teaspoon of powdered milk in my coffee instead of sugar. We have increased our dairy intake would this be the problem.

    Hi there

Yes, I have had the same issue. My meals look similar to yours but I no longer require snacks as I am not hungry. I do not eat any fruit. I have vegemite and gluten free toast, salad with meat or sandwich with meat and salad or sometimes a red curry or soup for lunch and then meat and veges for tea, sometimes wraps or something like that but no sauce apart from natural yoghurt. I too am at a loss as to why I am putting on weight. We have swapped to full fat milk, butter etc as well.

I think that your problem could be all the carbohydrates you are consuming.
I have a protein meal for breakfast.......usually eggs with either steamed vegetables and home made mayo. Or bacon eggs and mushrooms. I don't eat lunch as I don't get hungry, but snack at about 2.00pm on some roasted nuts and an unsweetened cocoa with full cream milk. For my dinner, I usually have meat or fish with vegetables.
I rarely eat fruit.........the fruit from the shops is far too big quite frankly. I will sometimes have a strawberry or two if I feel like it.
If I do have any bread or pasta, it is only a small portion, half what I used to have as I can't eat as much as I used to.
Maybe you could try to give this a go and see what happens!!!!
    cheers
    Freda

I suggest that you both make a detailed diary of all food intake for two weeks. Calculate the fructose content of everything  you eat, using the tables in Sweet Poison Quit Plan, and careful reading of the Nutritional Information Panels on all processed foods.

You should aim for a maximum of 10 grams of fructose per day, and adjust your eating habits accordingly.

After you have settled down it's easier to limit yourself to 2 small pieces of fruit a day, NO cane sugar, NO fruit juice, NO sweet biscuits, cake etc (try Cruskits  and cream cheese), some nuts for a snack,  . .  . . . .  and a good dose of common sense :-)

If you have unexpected weight gain or failure to lose weight, David suggests going low-card for a few weeks.

BTW  on the "howmuchsugar" web site there is a new section on Questions  [ http://www.howmuchsugar.com/Default.aspx?pageId=723977 ]

where, presumably you can ask David questions. You can also do this from the http://sweetpoison.com.au/  web site.
