Am I doing something wrong?

My husband and I started 2 weeks ago on our sugar free quest. I had tried before at the beginning of the year but lapsed. My husband had a gout episode a few weeks back and I gave him Davids book to read and he was on board! He has lost a couple of kilos, I have lost nothing. Typical day would be: 2 pieces burgen with vegemite, soup or toasted sandwhich or sushi for lunch, meat or chicken and veges for dinner sometimes with rice or spuds. We both enjoy a couple of glasses of wine or a spirit with soda with dinner. At the moment, we are having no fruit or any other sugars apart from what is naturally in milk for our coffee. We are doing the 'cold turkey' for 8 weeks before introducing a piece of fruit again. We are probably eating a lot more in the carb dept than we usually do. Also I have read the book on the oils so we use coconut oil and butter only. So, my question is - Has anyone else found that the first couple of weeks they do not lose anything? Ideally, I have 15kg to lose.

sushi actually contains fructose, they mix sugar in with the rice to make it stick together.  I would be dropping the alcohol down a bit and see how you go. Regarding the carbs, some simple carbs like rice, potatoes, and white bread burn fast so you actually get hungrier quicker (these are used for energy first because they are so easy).  I like to mix up my breaky a bit, porridge with berries, museli with yoghurt and berries, light rye bread (lower in gi).

Thanks Janelle. The sushi is home made so no sugar. Yep - could cut down the couple of glasses of wine per night. Will definitely try that. Like lots of others been a life time dieter and thought I had stumbled onto Nirvana with this. Will keep going :)

It does work, you just have to be patient. You will probably find your weight will fluctuate or plateau from time to time as well but don't give up.

It is not a miracle diet, you have to be strict until you get down to your desired weight but how quickly you loose really depends on what you ate before and how diligent you are now.
I lost 17 kilos in a year and have another 10 to go but am going through a bad patch in my life at the moment and have put a kilo back on as I was eating too many of the yummy, although approved, sweet things.

Need to feel better about myself to be stricter and it will come.

    Good luck

You have to get totally sugar free so that your appetite control kicks in and then you start to eat less as a consequence. It took me about 3 weeks before I found one night that half way through a "normal" dinner I was full, from that point on I reduced my meal sizes so not to waste food and then gradually lost weight, I have now lost 20kg but it has taken a year average about 1/2 kg per week.

    Good luck

Thanks everyone. I believe we are totally sugar free. I have been very careful about what is in our meals etc. Will just have to wait and see I guess. Its great to hear about people sticking to it and the amount they have lost. A real inspiration. I had terrible headaches for the last few days but they have now stopped thank goodness. The hunger thing is still there for both of us but as we are now into week 3, hopefully that will abate soon too.

    Hello Stephanie,
Make sure you are eating full cream/fat everything with your meals. The saturated fat gives you satiety and lasts so you wouldn't feel the hunger. But do make sure you are both eating until you are full, this may take time to kick in, it's different for everyone.
And keep your carbohydrates right down to the minimum, veggies, protein, full fat and a little carbs will soon fill you up.

    cheers
    Freda
