Can anyone tell me where I can purchase full butter puff pastry ? My Woolworths,Foodland,Coles do not stock it and I am kinda put off by the idea of making it myself :(

    Thanks

    Cheers :)

There is a beautiful and highly regarded product made by Careme, in the Barossa Valley here in South Australia.

Their website http://www.caremepastry.com/default.asp shows a map of Australia with outlets in all (most?) states.

I make my own shortcrust pastry but I agree with you about the effort in making puff pastry!

BTW, on the subject of pastry making... I learned this from my grandmother when I was a child, and we never sweetened any pastry used for desserts as the fillings would be sweet enough.  The same with scones and pikelets. So if anyone has a favourite recipe from pre-quit-sugar days, I would recommend trying it with no sugar at all.

    Hi Sandra

Many thanks for the info re puff pastry. I actually live at Gawler and so the trip to the Barossa is a pleasant 25 mins from here.

I will check out the website and certainly follow that info up.

Like you, I also make my own shortcrust pastry and never used sugar when baking scones, pikelets etc. Every little bit helps doesn't it.

    Thanks again

    Cheers  :)

    Hello Sandra
thanks for the info on Careme butter puff pastry.......we got some this morning in South Sydney near where we live. I'm looking forward to using it..........but it does rather make the steak and kidney pie I'm planning to make, a bit pricey. The shop that sells it charges $12.00 for just one sheet!!!
A friend of mine told me I can get Pampas butter puff in Coles, she said it was rather expensive..........$5.50 for only three sheets and nearly fainted when I told her how much Careme costs. But she said that Pampas is very thin and maybe the Careme, which is much thicker can be thawed and cut into two and rolled out thinner. She said it must be very good for that price, but I think that as the shop we bought if from knows that they are the only one who sells it in the whole of South Sydney, they may feel they can charge a bit more for it.
    cheers

I did cut the Careme butter puff into two and it rolled out very nicely and tasted terrific.

I shall use it all up..........it's now costing $6.00 per sheet............and then go to Coles and get the Pampas one...........sigh.

    thanks for all your help
    cheers
