The point of that paper is not to highlight the benefits of eliminating fructose but to explain that weight loss is a slow process no matter how you go about it. That initial weight loss is mainly fluid and waste and that's what gets us excited. Real fat loss occurs after and that is the frustrating, slow, I want to give up phase that many people struggle to get through. Me included.
I am finding it alot easier since quitting sugar as I get so full so easily and have reduced (not zero!) cravings for sweet things.
Good luck to everyone on their weight loss journey if that is indeed your goal.

Although the article does go into low calorie, there is one big point (towards the end of it I think) that there is not a one fits all type thing, he was doing low calorie and it worked for him but that doesn't mean to say that it will work for everyone else.  But basically I do agree with the point about the variable weight, there is always going to be variables about when you weight (as mentioned in the article, stools, fluids etc), then there is the constant (things like organs).  I guess it comes down to don't beat yourself up over the numbers on the scales.  I've heard many of times about ladies who have just had children, what takes you 9 months to put on will take you 9 months to work off.  What took you a lifetime to put on is going to be a very very slow process of getting off, so stick with it.

i have been sugar free since June last year and lost 19kg, my wife was pre diabetic and is now not classified as that now and has lost 14kg plus.  She plateaued for a while and to move lower on her weight we have reduced the white carbs - potatoes, rice, bread and pasta and that has helped. Good luck.

Hi everyone, just to update you on my success.  I am now 11 weeks in and have lost 8 kilos.  At the beginning I was finding it a little frustrating and wondered why I would give up sugar if I was not losing weight.  I am doing some exercise as my body does need to do this to lose weight, walking and resistance training, and have the energy to enjoy both.   I am normally a comfort eater and by that I mean chocolate.  I have had some stress in my life over the past few weeks and have not even considered eating chocolate, this is a major break through for me.  Of course I would prefer the weight would come off faster but that is because I am a little impatient.  This is the first time I have been able to lose weight with the support of my husband, he never understood counting calories or points but he finds it much easier to read labels for sugar content.  I still find I am snacking between meals, I have always been a grazer, but am working  on reducing this.

    Hello again Diane
wow, 8 kilos in 11 weeks, that is not slow at all..........it took me eighteen months to lose 15 kilos. Don't worry about the snacking between meals........you don't have to work on it, it will reduce itself as time goes on.........just enjoy. We have all been grazers, but I find now, I don't eat breakfast until about 10.30 because I am simply not hungry.......then I may have some nuts or full fat cheese and a couple of crackers around 2.30 and an unsweetened cocoa with full cream milk and that does me until dinner at about 6.30. I simply find it absolutely impossible to fit in any snacks at all as I'm so not hungry that I don't remember food. But this has taken two and a quarter years to get to this.

So, don't fret, it will happen and I can empathize over the exercise need..........I simply enjoy exercise for its own sake..........with me, it doesn't affect my weight loss whether I exercise or not, although increased muscle size adds to the scale's weight. But I know how I look and how my clothes fit and that is ok. I still weigh myself from time to time out of curiosity, but that article on how we lose weight really is an eye opener and the mind relaxes because of this knowledge.

Good luck in your journey...........you will feel better and better as your health improves.
    cheers
    Freda
