Is cocoa powder ok to be fructose free? I had assumed I would need to switch to cacao powder but I notice many of the recipes here us cocoa.  Thanks.

    Hi there

I think it would pay to just check on the packaging and see how much sugar is in it?

plain pure cocoa powder is fine, make sure it's not the drinking chocolate kind (that contains sugar).  I sometimes use cadbury or nestle, but the best is the plain old cheap brand while others use organic.  Not sure of the difference between cocoa or cacao powers haven't really tried cacao powder myself, but assuming you can use cacao powder however you may need to adjust quantities if it tastes stronger.

For a change to tea and coffee, I also drink cocoa. Nestles Plaistowe Premium Dutch Processed Cocoa from Woolworths or Coles has only 0.7% sugar in it as the tin quotes .7g per 100g and a very little cocoa goes a long way in making a drink.

Without checking cocoa I think it's probably OK. But I suggest avoiding drinking chocolate which is loaded with sugar.

Check the labels and avoid anything with more than 2%  "sugars".  It's easy really :-)
