    Chocolate Velvet Pie

    Ingredients:

    1/2 cup plain flour

    3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa

    1 cup desiccated coconut

    1 cup dextrose

    1 cup cream

    1 cup milk

    4 eggs - beaten

    100g melted butter

    Method:

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.  Combine all ingredients together in a bowl and mix thoroughly.
    2. Pour into a greased straight-sided 25cm pie dish
    3. Bake for approx. 1 hour - mixture should be soft set not too firm.  I baked mine for around 1 1/4 hrs but it pays to check after 1 hour. 
    4. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting.
    5. Serve warm with cream.  Also is yummy cold.

    The ingredients will separate whilst cooking to make a crunchy topping, a creamy chocolate custard filling and a doughy base.

     

    This has become a real favourite in our household.

    Anne, your Choc Velvet Pie sounds yummy, and as soon as I get my hands on some Dextrose, will try it out.
    Have you ever thought of making it a Lemon Velvet Pie? Don't quite know how, but maybe add lemon juice/rind, instead of the coca? You'd have to maybe cut back on the other liquids? If you ever do it, let me know! I love lemon dessert things.
