    Good evening!

I am planning on starting my sugar-free journey soon....have already started reading food labels (after reading sweet poison in one sitting) and was absolutely shocked when I saw all the sugar in cereals!  I have/had been buying low-fat yoghurts and 'weight watchers' bars for snacks, which I have just found out to be full of sugar, some 37.5g /100 (!).

Isn't this just SCARY!  You think you are buying a 'fat-free/low-fat' item and wonder why we're all not loosing weight.

I'd love some real-life tips on how people actually started?  Did you have a start-date? Are there any snack alternatives (I'm not the biggest fan of cooking....) that are realistic and tasty?

    Many thanks.

Hi,  i am only a few weeks in, but I started whilst reading the quit book, and sipping on my soy cappuccino with 2 sweetners...... Well, a few things have changed since then. I too was having nearly all 'diet' products and heaps of fruit too, and wondering why my weight was slowly going up despite regular exercise, but when I stopped and looked at all the hidden sugar I was eating.... I too was horrified... I assumed mountains of fruit was a good thigng!
I have been using stevia to sweeten my porridge, and Greek yoghurt... So I have just found sugar free options of  what i was already eating. I have found the no sauces thing the hardest.... But I am learning to make different choices.
I don't have much weight to lose, only 3-4 kg, but I was wanting to break the addiction, and was aware that even though I was full, I was still looking for food because my head didn't feel satisfied... If that makes sense. I am only now just starting to finish a meal, and not feel the need to finish it off with something sweet. Small steps, but it's not as hard as I thought it would be, as you don't feel like you are on a diet.... And you can eat as much as you want.....I wish I'd known about such a simple thing to do years ago.....
Good luck!   I didn't set a date to start, as I was too excited to 'get on with it'......

    Hi Owen

I confess, I 'started' by eating all the expensive American chocolate in the house, as I couldn't bear to throw it out.  But, once I really started, I realised I was better off without it.  I found that once I really stopped eating sugar, I was always full and did not want snacks.  I eat 'worse' than I did before, I eat a cooked b/fast most mornings, with lots of butter and full cream milk.  I have gone from 102 to 86 kg in two months.  As for snacks, if you feel you need something, nuts are good, I bought a small bag of nuts 2 months ago and still have most of them, but they were a nice thing to have when I wanted to snack early on.

I'm on day one! Started out really well....felt a little strange having my home-made sugar free muesli without a few blueberries chucked in but substituted with a dollop of full fat Greek yogurt and it was lovely!
I too, ate pretty much all low fat/no fat foods & was amazed at the hidden sugars! I work out 6 days a week but couldn't shift any weight! Probably because of all the low fat food and fruit I would eat daily!

I am still a little scared and reluctant to eat all full fat items because my brain is hard wired to think "i'll get fat" but I will do it! I'm a little scared of fruit now too! I haven't had any at all today - and do not intend on having any.

I had cut sugar from my coffee a couple of weeks ago which wasn't hard because I would only have half a teaspoon of Nativa before anyway.

I was doing sooooo well up until about 3pm. I started to get pretty peckish and REALLY tired! To the point that I would have gone to bed if my partner was home to watch our 3 year old!
    Also was feeling bloated??

Then about 4:30pm the sugar craving came. I tried nuts, cheese, green tea.....nothing worked. So I grabbed a Pepsi Max from the fridge. I am not a soft drink person at all. But I have to say the first sip was soooo sweet and it hit the spot. Craving gone.

I mostly crave sweets after dinner.....so far, so good!
