Hi there, I have just started with regards to the sugar free - I don't and never have eaten much sugar as I dont add sugar to anything I cook and don't eat dessert, I don't have sugar in tea/coffee - however after seeing David on TV I realised that there is a lot of added sugar hidden in things that I do eat - for instance I may have a tin of single serve soup for lunch (tomato) and have now realised there is sugar in that - I am concerned about my weight as I am just outside the healthy weight range due to menopause and don't seem to be able to lose the weight I have gained so I decided to give this a go - today I have had approximately 36 grams of sugar but 30 of that came from fruit (2 pears) - and it is just past lunch time - so, I will be adding to that - I have made a home made pea and ham soup for dinner which is full of vege's and ham - and I will eat that with wholegrain spelt bread - so I guess I really just need to know if I am on track - ps I made my first recipe yesterday which was chocolate/fudge slab for my grand kids it was delicious as I had to try it... Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Jill :-)

The book suggests 10g a day.  I'd say that you need to go through all your processed foods ( soups, sauces, breads, etc ) and prepare to be surprised at how much you're eating.  The only way out is to cook all your own food, and not put any sugar in any of it, or check the labels ( sour dough bread has no sugar, for example, and a lot of seed breads also have no sugar, esp the more expensive ones ).

    Hello Jill and welcome
    have you read David's books?
They explain Everything you need to know about fructose free eating.

If not, I suggest you get them out of the library and have a good read..........he is a very entertaining writer and the science is explained simply and is so easy to understand.
Then you may be inspired to buy at least The Sweet Poison Quit plan which has many recipes in it.
David also suggests we eat dextrose cooked sweets sparingly as it is as high in calories as sugar while not being harmful.

good luck in your journey, you won't regret it
    cheers

Why do you need to eat fruit ? You CAN eat it, if you want ( but I would say, not every day ), but, there is nothing in fruit that your body needs and can't get from other sources that you're very likely already eating.

This was hard news for me, I have my own orchard of fruit trees, and I basically give most of it away, now.

I was always a big fruit eater, I used to have it for morning tea and afternoon tea, what ever was on special at the time.  I still do eat fruit, although it's not every day as I find I don't need to snack however fruit is way to sweet for me now and I prefer berries (strawberries, blueberries and raspberries).

Two pieces (100g ea) is all you need. So why not try nuts, Cruskits with cream cheese, or something else sans fructose for snacks.

I think the idea of fruit being something you limit is the one thing that a lot of people find hardest.  In the 60 Minutes discussion that was the one thing people kept yelling 'how do I get those vitamins if I don't eat fruit ?'

Fruit mainly provides you with Vitamin C. There are plenty of other ways to get that.  If you want to stop eating fructose, you have to stop eating a lot of fruit . .  just 2 x 100g  pieces a day is all you need.
