Hey Desi.  I've been sugar free for two months ( although not great the last few weeks, as I was overseas ).  I've lost 14 kg so far and I feel great.  Once you're over the first hump, it gets easier and easier.

Hello Desi, I'm 71years, weighted 64kg, very active in cycle racing (vets) and had no need to reduce weight. I took sugar in tea/coffee, ate tim tams by the packet and those lovelly Scotch Fingers covered in chocolate. Life was good. So why did I reduce sugar?

After reading S/P and Q/S/P I decided I was not going to continue to shovel sugar into my body. I doubt I will get dibetes 2 and CVD seems unlikely but it is the possible association of Altzimers, Parkinsons, Dementure which worries me. Health wise I'm fine and I wanto keep it that way. I found that to completely eliminate sugar was impossible and I'm happy wth 90% reduction.

There are problems, in my case such as finding a high energy food while racing. I used to take a couple of museli bars with me and now I'm trying the Flapjacks, without iceing, as they are relatively firm to carry in my back pocket.

On loosing weight.... As I said I did not have a problem with weight and cutting out sugar was easy. Just stop shoving poison in your mouth. It was like a light turned on...it's up to you, though tea/coffee still tastes lousey. I started 4 months ago and after a week saw 1/2kg go, I did not believe it. I ate everything I wanted except sugar. After a month  the scale was showing 62-63 kg and now after 4 months is down to around 60.5kg and seems to have stabilised which is reassuring. Good luck.

My dragon boat racing friend and his crew wallop down a few glucose tablets at the start of a race to provide an energy hit. They cost about $3 for 20 at the chemist shop.

    Hi Des and welcome
I've been sugar free for eighteen months now and have lost over 15 kilos and have stabilised. I have never felt better and don't even crave sweet food anymore.

I am overseas at the moment, we spent five weeks in Italy and two in France and are now staying with our daughter and son in law in the Uk at the mo.  and it's so easy to be sugar free abroad. Hotels supply a wide variety at breakfast...........meats, cheeses, natural yoghurt, full cream milk and plain breads. I get so full at breakfast that I only have a handful of nuts at about 3pm and a milky coffee and I am right until dinner. The dinners are easy too as you can see where they add the sugar to the sauces on the menus and they don't dress the salads either, just give you the dressings and let you add it yourself.

You will find after a while, when your appetite control kicks in, and that took about 8 months for me, that you won't eat half what you used to eat anyway. And a full fat diet, means you are easily satiated.

Good luck on your journey.............you won't regret it!

    cheers
    Freda
