Hi, Claudine, and welcome to the forum. I hear you, I carry all my weight in my belly area too....I lost 19 kilos going low fructose. but almost 5 kilos have crept up on me since November, so I'm doing the Leptin Reset regime, ie very low carb, mainly just eating protein, good fats, (coconut oil) and heaps of low carb veggies.
May I suggest to you something I didn't do and really regret, is that I didn't go walking more while I was losing that weight. I still need to lose another 12 -15 kilos. I have been doing the new regime for 5 days so far, with only a tiny departure on the 1st 2 days. Weight is going down slowly, but I haven't had a real weigh in yet, I want to do a once a week one. But I have had a peek, twice, just to give my self esteem a lift !!
I was having emotional problems back in November and since, but I have been doing lots of work on myself and am going in the right direction now.
So, my advice for you is, shop for your new way of life, make sure you don't have any temptations in the house NONE, find substitutions, read as many of the forum posts as possible. Lots of info here & over on Sweet Poison forum. That was a good thing to have a family meeting, ask the children to help you with the preparation, if that's at all possible, as they will be your little fructose reminders, keeping you accountable
!!
Relax and don't be hard on yourself, try to move forward, try not to think or talk about the old way of life, just stride forward, be good to yourself, and all will be well.
If you like to bake, find some good low fructose recipes, like Muesli bars for the children, and Anzac biscuits, and suchlike. Bake & freeze in individual portions, so you can monitor how much you all have. Dextrose treats are just that, try not to have any in the first few weeks, and then only as a now & then treat.
Or to take to 'bring a plate' venues....lol....Don't tell anyone, unless they ask for the recipe!!
Buy your Dextrose at Big W, in the home brew section, a 1 kilo bag is around $3.00. And buy some Rice Malt syrup, (Coles, health food aisle).....it's a great substitute for honey, golden syrup, Maple syrup, brown sugar, molasses, treacle and Agave Syrup. It's nice to drizzle a little on your porridge, and in unsweetened yoghurt with some smashed berries in. Also get some Chia seeds, (Coles health food aisle) and some flax seeds, both high in Omega 3's, and the chia seeds if put into the yoghurt will thicken it up. I was liking to add a dollop of full fat cream as well, just to take the tartness of the fruit away. (I was using strawberries) . I smashed them all together with a stick blender & stored in a container in the fridge, then had a half a glass as dessert, or as a mid morning or afternoon snack, the chia seeds fill you up. Just add 1 teaspoon per 2 glasses full.
I'd better stop now, before I REALLY get carried away, maybe I oughta be!! lol.....sigh....
I wish you well on your new journey, keep in touch via the forums, so we can encourage you, lots of lovely helpful people just waiting to help you....
