Taking to heart the information contained in Sweet Poison Quit Plan I have purchased a jar of glucose syrup. It is bottled by Queen Fine Foods P/L and is labelled as "Finest quality glucose syrup derived from corn". Is this the reportedly bad, 55% fructose content, this-will-kill-you corn syrup merely masquerading as the good stuff, or is it the health food equivalent of methadone which will replace the serious addicts' craving for fructose?

I have just received a response from Queen Fine Foods P/L regarding my above query. Their representative, in a display of first class service, has informed me that Queen brand glucose syrup contains only glucose and definitely does not contain fructose. I bought the jar from Coles. It was near cake making thingys, adjacent to vanilla essence etc.

    Hi David F,

Thanks for letting us know. I've seen it but not bought it because I wasn't sure what I could use it for. Would it taste good as a honey substitute? What are you using it for? I've been using Glucodin powder and tablets as my glucose source.

Hi Dennise, When I was a kid training and being fed Glucodin, we used to keep glucose syrup in the refrigerator and dig out clumps of it to eat as high energy sweets. It tastes nothing like honey. It really has very little taste and although I was aware of it's sweetness as a child, I now find it a little bland. This is explained in Mr Gillespie's book and I look forward to it tasting sweeter as time goes on. However, I find that so early in my quest to wean myself from fructose, I cannot yet enjoy tea and coffee without sugar. A teaspoon of glucose syrup makes a great difference. I think it would probably have the same effect on porridge. Hope this is of some assistance. Best wishes..DF.
