im on day 12 and im still wanting sugar.  Not as much but i can smell it!!!!

My problem is that after dinner i like something to eat.  My cup of licorice tea helps but i need to eat.  I have generally already had some fruit during the day and crackers etc etc so i dont know what to have that will keep me satisfied.

    Any suggestions??

    Hi Shelley,
I find yoghurt or a bit of ricotta (sometimes with a strawberry sliced on top) great for evenings.  It fills you up and the dairy has a satisfying and soporific effect.
Where can you smell the sugar?  Is it still in your house?  The most freeing thing you can do is get rid of it altogether.  I have eliminated everything now, apart from hubbie's jam and biscuits which I put on the highest pantry shelf so that neither I nor my kids even know its there.

    Hi,

Thanks for your comments.  I am confused with Yoghurt though.  I love it and havent had it since i started because of sugar content.  I looked at the Jalna one David suggested but it had too much sugar.  I love Tamar Valley yoghurt which is 9.1% per 100gm so way to high.

I think the smell of chocolate is just probably more to do with the fact that im still craving it.  Im not looking at poison food yet and thinking i could pass on it.  Will just give it time.

    Thanks.

Hi, my husband and I have a Jarra Chocolatte which has aspartame in it but also glucose solids. Not sure if this is OK and we have noticed since being fructose free that it tastes so much sweeter - in fact we nearly can't stand it which is probably good as I don't really like aspartame in my food.  We also have a handful of nuts as a treat after dinner.  I have made the brownie slice and its great.  I was eating Black Swan greek style low fat yogurt until I read it has inulin in it - a no no so I will go back to Jalna natural yogurt. I love its tartness but husband hates it.  cheers - love reading all the ideas and posts.

Have just come home from supermarket and found Jalna Whole milk natural creamy yogurt which has 3.4g per 100 - no added sugar so I think it is from lactose so that would be OK.  Also found Irrewarra Breakfast seed sourdough with 0.4g p/100 and Helga's seed sensation bread with 1.5g p/100.  So now with Thomy Mayo which has 1g p/100 I can make a great salad sandwich for lunch.  Also Vita-wheat multigrain rice crackers with 0.6g p/100 will be a hit with husband who loves cheese.

Hi there. Have a bash at Sunrice Rice Cakes (original). They contain an inconsequential amount of the sweet stuff and make a nice snack. During the day they are nice spread with cream cheese or avocado. In front of the telly they go really well with a little mashed banana and crushed nuts.

So my after dinner tip is a cup of chai tea with a little milk.  I find the spicy tea - and especially the cinnamon in it make feel like I've had dessert. Good luck! I'm through 19 days now and feeling great - lost 4 kgs.

Hi, in reply to Jarra Chocolatte.  That was my hot drink of choice too.  I am now drinking 1 heaped teaspoon of cocoa (bournville) and 2 teaspoons of dextrose with hot water and a little milk (like you would make tea or coffee).  It took about a week to adjust to the taste but now I love it and it has started tasting sweeter so I will gradually reduce the amount of dextrose.

Shelley, go to the Discussion Forums page and click on recipes then look for the brownie recipe - it is yummy.  I too look for something sweet after dinner.

Has anyone got a substitute suggestion for Holbrooks Worcestershire Sauce?  I use it alot in my cooking.

    regards,
    Alicia

After dinner I like to make myself a pot of nice tea, I love all sorts of tea so have a cupboard full of variety.  With this I microwave a couple of pappadams and then nibble on these, it replaces the habit of snacking on something sweet and I am happy.

    Hope this idea helps :)

    Hi Nicole

How do you microwave pappadams.  Is one brand better than others.
