    Hi all,

I have begun my sugar free journey - I am a HUGE sweet tooth, chocolate, cakes, biscuits - you name it, I've eaten it (a packet of Tim Tams can be gone in minutes).  I read Sweet Poison borrowed from a friend and then received my Quit Plan book two days ago.  It makes so much sense and would certainly explain why I've failed dismally on so called 'diets'.  I like the structure of putting a plan together and treating like you would with any other addiction (I am an ex-smoker for 10 years now so should be able to beat the sugar addiction too).  I've stocked up on cheese, crackers and nuts for those moments where I crave a snack, but am bracing myself for the hunger attacks. It felt strange buying full cream milk, full fat cheese etc when I haven't had these things for years.  I've weighed myself at the beginning of my withdrawal - what can I expect? Will it be normal to put on some weight at this stage? How have others found the weight loss part at stages in their withdrawal?  Whilst it is different for everyone, I am curious to hear how others are going,  Cheers.

    Hi everyone

I too heard David speak on ABC 702 a couple of weeks ago and bought his Quit Plan the next day. I have now been sugar free for nearly 2 weeks. No weight loss as yet but I am finding it easier to respond to my body's hunger, which is what I was really after in the first place. I am a mum and also a uni student - biochemistry and molecular biology was my major so I find this fascinating and such common sense. It is interesting that, although I studied a great deal of biochem at uni, that the fructose pathway was only vaguely looked at - the emphasis was on glucose metabolism. I am astounded at David's understanding of the processes considering his background, but more than that is his ability to convey a very complicated topic in an entertaining, down to earth way. So impressive. Looking forward to hearing (and reporting) successes!

I'd like to know this too...

I was not a sugarholic so to speak but did have a lot of sultanas and honey in my diet.  Didn't eat much chocolate or icecream or those sorts of things and have never been big on fruit.  I also gave up fruit juice some time ago after hearing how bad it is for you...

I've only been off sugar for a week now and wasn't expecting immediate results on the scales as I don't have a HUGE amount of weight to lose (around 10kg) but I'm not sure what to expect and wondered about the experience of others?

David - are you out there??

Hi Christine, Welcome to the site.  I've been doing this nearly 4 weeks now and have a lost a couple of kilos - weight started coming off pretty soon.  But that's really become a side-bonus.  I have been feeling so great lately - hormonally, energy, focus, skin, mood, libido - I am so enjoying these things that I'm not so concerned about the weight coming off fast because I just know it will eventually.
Keep sharing through your withdrawal - definitely the hardest time, but you know there's a brilliant light at the end of the tunnel...

Hi Janet welcome, I've been  conscious of not eating sugar for 11days now, and WOW I'm feeling great not being controlled by sugar, I would like to loose about the same as you, I'm not sure what the scales say, although I can see a difference already around my middriff, it is looking like there is less there.

    keep in touch Lyn

Hi Kellie welcome, David has written an excellent book letting us know what is the best things to eat with the amount of sugar that is written on the labels, and what happens is our body knows exactly how many calories it needs in a day, and I don't seem to eat as much as I use to, when eating all the junk food, I feel fantastic I've been eating like this for 11 days now, there's now way I'll ever go back

Look forward to hearing how your going

    Hi Lyn

You're right - I feel thinner too but when I weighed myself the scales didn't reflect it.  It is very early days for me and I deliberately don't want to go down the 'lose heaps of weight in a week and gain it all back and then some sort of detox diet based on syrup' so just have to keep reminding myself of that.  I am here on this journey to improve my health, diet and weight - in that order!

    Hi Janet,
Scales are the most ludicrously unpredictable things and should be used with serious caution.  You would be MUCH better off getting a tape measure and recording measurements.  For instance, muscle always weighs more than fat, so you can go up in 'weight' on a scale if you start doing weights.  If you're feeling thinner go with that and the scales will eventually catch up!  I only weigh myself every few weeks at the absolute most because they really do my head in - and bodyweight always fluctuates with fluid etc.
    :)
