Hi, I just watched a video called Sugar: The Bitter Truth which was very interesting. Along the same lines as your book. However he implied that drinking any sort of alcohol (ethanol) was the same as ingesting fructose. In your book you say that beer , wine and spirits are ok as they do not contain fructose. Which is right? (I hope you are!)

I gotta say ... it was a concern for me too ... I'm still looking hard at the research.  I am not coming to the same conclusions as Rob Lustig on this one (as yet).  Yes alcohol is metabolised to fat and yes it does seem (at least in rats) to inhibit your body using your own stored fat (for a short time).  But it does not have the other characteristics of fructose consumption - particularly the disabling of apetite controls (as far as I can see yet) ... I am continuing to look and I will come back with what I find, but in the meantime I'll still have the occasional galss of wine.

Trouble is I have 1-2 glasses of wine a day!
