    Hi everybody,

I am on day 9 of my withdrawal, and, oh boy, it's gotta get better soon! I've had the headaches and upset stomach that I'd read about, and the sugar cravings and constant hunger, although I think I read that the hunger is probably just because I'm craving sugar.  I've been reading this forum and have gotten some great tips. Went out and bought some Rice Malt syrup and crumpets today, this got me over a hump. I have lost a kilo, but I think this is because I've been visiting "the smallest room in the house" (as David puts it), quite a lot this week. I do believe it gets better, God I hope so! I'm a huge sugaraholic and I need to lose about 20 kilos, I am inspired by many stories I've read on this site and hope I'm lucky enough to lose some weight but mostly just want to be healthier.

"Getting lucky"  is like "finding time"   . . . you make them, not find them.

I am involved in a personal growth program called The Sedona Method [ www.sedona.com] . One of their "releases" relates to addictions. They suggest that when you feel a craving, bring the good feeling that indulging will give you into your awareness. Welcome too, all the pictures, thoughts, sounds etc that come with it. Give yourself some time to become aware of them all. Then just let them all go. Just drop them as best you can.  Repeat the process several times and the craving will go away.

Another technique, used in smoking cessation programs, is to distract yourself - get up, go and DO something physical like wash your hands, have a drink of water , walk around the house. After 3 or 4 minutes of this the carving will probably have subsided.

    Hi Jenny,
I don't understand why you would be hungry. Do Not Starve yourself! There are a heap of good foods you can eat. Make sure you have at least three meals a day and then have some nuts, or yoghurt or cheese or a glass of milk in between if you need to. This should see you over the hump and back on track. You can also have fruit, but just limit this to one-two whole pieces a day. You could make yourself a smoothie using milk (or I use almond milk if I make one) some walnuts, a piece of fruit (a banana or some frozen berries) and some greek yoghurt. You can throw in some soaked Chia seeds, almond paste, coconut oil, coconut cream or flax seed powder. Experiment until you find a flavour you like. These are great for breakfast and really quite filling. This is like a whole food protein shake. All you need is a blender to whisk it all up.
    Hope this helps, Good luck

Thanks Jenny, I've just seen your post. I'm up to week 5 now and I've been keeping to my 10g a day most days, didn't even have chocolate over Easter, I did splurge on a hot cross bun though, but straight back on the wagon the next day. I have only lost 1.5kg so far, but am not doing any exercise, so that might help. Will try the smoothie idea. Jenny S
