Hi all.  I loved Sweet Poison and Big Fat Lies and think it all makes sense, certainly for me.  I have recently done a Whole30 (from It Starts with Food by Melissa and Dallas Hartwig) where you give up sugar, dairy and grains for 30 days and access how you feel.  That was an amazing experience, I didn't find it that hard, and I did come away thinking it really was the sugar that I wanted to completely avoid, although I am avoiding grains when I can.  So I've been going sugar free for a few weeks since that but with a few exceptions for family things.  But the exceptions really play havoc.  I much prefer 100% avoidance.  Thought I could join in the family tradition of Friday night choccy night where my son gets a whole chocolate bar.  Except that I didn't have just 2 whole chocolate cars in the pantry, I had a whole box of mixed chocolates left over from Halloween.  So I ended up in this orgy of chocolate, for 3 consecutive nights, until they were all gone! Disgusting, no will power.  Yet they had been sitting there for over a week, but when I opened the gate a little, the floodgates burst!  I remember the feeling sitting down at night watching TV and my mind thought of the chocolates, just sitting in the cupboard.  It was all I could think of for 10 minutes, not really paying attention to our show, deciding I had to just eat them all, so I could start 100% NO Sugar on Monday!  Thank God it was Sunday not Tuesday!

In conjunction I am also starting up a 7 week exercise programme to get FIT for skiing in Whistler just after Christmas.

What is the best way to blog about my progress as I find this helps keep me on track?  I am on My Fitness Pal.

    Hi
I have been sugar free (well, as much as possible) since September when I heard David speak at a conference I attended. He is such a nice guy, by the way.
I also use 'My Fitness Pal'. I am not sure about the blogging, never done it and was wondering if there is somewhere on "My Fitness Pal' to do that, otherwise I am not much help, but as no-one else had replied, I wanted to welcome you and wish you well.
I have lost very little weight since starting. but feel way better and not bloated. I also used to get diarrhea but not now, so it must have been the sugar.
I have to be careful not to make too many of the dextrose based recipes (only for special occasions) as dextrose still has lots of calories. I have made the Ice-cream and enjoy that, especially as an affagato (Ice-cream with Espresso).
I believe that exercise is the key also but hate doing it, so try to do small walks and use the XBox Dance Central for fun exercise.
    Good Luck.
