Hi. I'm Sharon and David was at a conference I attended the 2nd week of September. I already had the Sweet Poison Quit Plan so I was not new to the idea of going sugar free, but took it seriously after listening to David speak. I had my last 2 Tim Tams (which I normally never eat) and piece of carrot cake that weekend (and felt guilty about it). 3 weeks on I have lost 750 grams which is great for me as I was not a big sugar eater anyway and always trying to lose weight for years, having been on many diets and also Lite n Easy and I worked for Weight Watchers in the office going back a few years.
Going sugar free has not been as hard as I thought as I did not have much of a withdrawal. I now picture plates of dessert as piles of sugar, and find I am not as hungry as I used to be, leaving some of my food when out at restaurants.
Wow, this is great. I feel better in myself and my fingernails are not cracked and peeling anymore.
Do others feel great after going off the sugar?

Hi Sharon, I'm new here too but have been eliminating sugar on the advice of my endocrinologist for a few months now and I feel fantastic. I agree that once you get your head around it its really not that hard and the things I've given up I don't miss particularly now the sugar cravings have gone. I've dropped 8kgs, I've lost the bloat from my face and belly, my mood swings have gone, my eyes are sparkling and I've regained some of my much missed vitality. The very best thing though is I'm learning to reconnected to my hunger and eat only when I'm hungry and after too many years dieting this fills my heart with joy.

Hi Bridget...Its heartening to know that some-one else is doing well without sugar and losing weight also. You are my only reply and I find that a bit sad. I would have loved to hear from others also.
I am so glad you are felling less bloated. I feel the same.
This week I put on .5. I think maybe it is because I had 2 pieces of cake that I made with dextrose (not on the same day), and I had some red rock deli crisps.
I have decided that dextrose cakes are going to be for special occasions only and that goes for the crisps also. I felt so ill after having crisps 1 night a half hour before bed...how silly of me. I should know better. I should just have had some hot milk with sugar free chocolate powder in it.
The rest of the cake is in the freezer now and maybe I will allow myself a slice once a week, but a small one. It fills me pretty quickly too. I have found the hunger pains have gone but have to be careful not to slip back into the bad habits of overeating. I wait now for 20 minutes after eating and find myself full.
Thanks again for writing and keep me updated on how you are going.
    Shaz.

Hi Shaz, it does seem a bit quite on this forum but those that I have made contact with seem to know their stuff and really that's what I was looking for when I signed up. Like you have already I'm keen to do some baking with Dextrose because I miss baking (funnily enough I'm not a huge fan of baked goods but baking is on of my stress relievers..go figure). I was able to get my hands on some yesterday so I'm looking forward to turning my oven on this weekend.

    Hi Sharon & Bridget.

I loved reading your posts and am so happy that you have both lost weight and don't crave sugar.

I have been sugar free 2 months today. WOW !!!

I am not weighing myself but my clothes still feel tight so I doubt if I have lost any weight. I need to lose 20 kilos.

I have also done Weight Watchers and other diets over the years but the weight always comes back. I am so so so over dieting. I think this is why I am not weighing myself either, as it's all wrapt up in the diet thinking mode, which I want to let go of.

My biggest psoitive is that I am not craving sugar any-more. I would usually want biscuits and cakes and would not be-able to resist them if they were in front of me. I don't care now. I am enjoying full fat cheese again and full fat greek style yoghurt that I love, which I have nearly every day.

I have also found Vitarium Drinking Chocolate ( Safeway Supermarket). It is made with Stevia which is natural and isn't fructose. It is very sweet though. I put 2 teaspoons ( the tin says 4) with a heaped teaspoon of cocoa powder in hot water and hot milk and it makes a delicious Hot Chocolate Drink.

    Good Luck on this journey.

    Miriam

    Hi Ladies

Lovely to meet you!  I have also lost some weight and am feeling very healthy and well.  I was eating up to 8 pieces of fruit per day and the more fruit I ate, the hungrier I was.  I cringe now when I think of how much sugar was in those 8 serves of fruit. As a result I was slowly letting more sugary treats back into my diet as I was craving sugar very badly and I was slowly gaining weight.  I had put on around 4kg which isn't a lot but I am a very small person so I felt the 4kg showed and I wasn't happy with it.  Now I have lost the weight and it wasn't hard at all.  I am having crisps and dextrose goodies only as treats (only once so far in 3 months) and I don't miss sugar at all.  My appetite control is working great and I don't feel starving everyday like I did before.  I also really enjoy baking so I just replace the sugar with dextrose and my family don't seem to notice the difference.  I wish you both the very best with your sugar free life and hope you continue to be rewarded for your efforts!

    Hi Miriam and Jane.
It is lovely to hear from you, and thanks for the reply Bridget.
Funny enough I never liked Greek Yoghurt before as it was too tart...I love it now. I pile it on some diet Jelly and the 2 go together lovely.
I also use the Vitarium Chocolate Powder but only 1 teaspoon is enough and like you add the Cocoa.
You know Jane it does not matter what size you are, having extra weight is annoying so good on you for not letting it get out of hand and most important of all, being sugar free. I am using a web site called "My Fitness Pal" to check that I don't stray too far over my allowance of calories as I think that is still important when losing weight. Once I have got the weight off I should be able to maintain very easily with this way of eating.
Good luck and keep updating on how you are doing. I love to hear from like minded people.
