Hi Everyone, I've read through loads of pages of topics but can't find anything on my query.  I'm generally pretty fit and healthy (45 yrs 5'4 56kg).  I don't really need to lose weight but the odd kilo would be good.  If your body works reasonably well, what benefits will be noticeable if I really commit to sugar free (like reduced bloating??).  I'd like to dive in and give it a good go but also wonder how you manage things on a social level.  Is there any benefit if say once a fortnight you had to make an exception.  I have good will power so the addiction side is not such a problem - I'm far more attracted to savoury than sweet - but will my body benefit in the same way if it's given the wrong sort of sugars occasionally?  I'd love to hear from anyone similar to me whose been doing this for a while, or any other suggestions.

Thanks everyone - this is a really great, informative and motivating site!

    Hi GT,

It's not just about losing/controlling weight. There are many other health benefits from eliminating fructose from your body, not to mention avoiding polyunsaturated fats.  BTW is your waist <94cm?  If not that would be a good goal. It needs to be (80cm for women) to avoid fat accumulating around the vital organs.

Have you read David's books?  If weight control is not your problem it may be best to start with Big Fat Lies.

Sweet Poison - all about the metabolism of fructose and the effects on out body.
Sweet Poison Quit Plan - how to control your weight by cutting fructose out of your diet.
    Big Fat Lies - about:
    • why diets don't work
    • fructose
    • supplements being useless [I differ from him here] and
    • the dangers of polyunsaturated fats.

If not I sguggest that you start with:

You can email David with questions, from the first of these sites.

If you can spare an hour, look at this lecture by Prof Robert Lustig: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM  which is about the metabolism of fructose.

    Good luck!
