Hi I have just become a member and have just read David,s book Big Fat Lies.
I have not read David's first two books.
I want to start eating fructose free but I am not sure how to go about it.
I have gathered from reading posts that 10g sugar per day seems to be the magic number to
aim for. But I do not know how to work that out. I have looked at the pages that have the teaspoon
equivalent of sugar in food, but then the values are all expressed in % how do I convert these values
    into grams.
Can anyone help me and also give me some tips on starting this program. I have already read the six
    steps of overcomming an addiction.

You need 10g of fructose a day - it helps glucose penetrate the cell walls. Beyond that it all goes to the liver and is converted to fat. You can get the 10g from 2 x 100g pieces of fruit.

Basically all you need to do is avoid ingesting all fructose/sucrose that you can avoid - sugar, extra fruit, processed foods with more than 2% sugar, honey, jam, and other spreads (except those with minimum sugar), yoghurt with > 5% sugars, etc. Check David's lists. 10g of fructose = 20g of sucrose.

Then you need to watch for the forms of sugar which are NOT metabolised as glucose. See Sweet Poison Quit Plan pp 54-55 [ you should buy this book chop chop ]. It and the web site have a lot of fructose-free recipes.

When you are ready and want to know more about the biochemistry of fructose metabolism, get Sweet Poison  and meantime watch the Robert Lustig video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM   Also check out the videos and other resources at  http://sweetpoison.com.au/

Good luck and keep checking these posts - "subscribe" to the ones which interest you and you will receive daily updates of the posts.

Thank you for your reply. I have found it very useful. I did buy the Sweet Poison Meal Plan over the weekend and have read most of it.
I do have one question on yoghurt. I bought the Aldi brand Greek Style Natural Yohurt and I am not sure how I should calculate the sugar (fructose). The ingredients are milk, milk solids, cream(from milk)
Live yoghurt cultures. The total sugars and sugars are 8.6/100g. There are no added sugar so is this product "0" fructose, or do I subtract the 4.7 and calculate the 3.9 as a % of sugar.
Hope you can understand what I am saying.
I have been on the plan for one whole day and so far I am feeling ok.
